The People Behind the Movement

Passionate. Experienced. Here for You.

Our team brings together trained mental health professionals, SEND advocates, educators, and peer mentors — many with lived experience of the very challenges they help others navigate.

Who We Are

A Team Built on Purpose

At Thrive2G, we believe that the best support comes from people who truly understand not just professionally, but personally. Our team combines clinical expertise, frontline training experience, and the kind of human understanding that only comes from having lived it yourself.
Together we work across the UK, Africa, and Europe to train communities, support individuals, and advocate for every mind that deserves to be heard.

Lucy Maira

Founder | SEND Advocate & Educational Specialist

Lucy Maira is the founding heart and driving force behind Thrive2G. With over a decade of frontline experience, she has worked across Alternative Provisions, Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) schools, and Young Offenders’ institutions in both the UK and Kenya.

A qualified SEND Advocate and neurodiversity trainer, Lucy’s approach is grounded in cultural sensitivity, inclusive practice, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every learner — no matter their background or diagnosis.

She has led transformative programmes in partnership with World Vision Kenya, the Bank of Uganda, and the Uganda People’s Defence Force. Her training is not theoretical. It is built from years of sitting with families in crisis, walking alongside overwhelmed educators, and listening to children who have never had the words to explain what is happening inside them.

Jane brings warmth, structure, and deep expertise to the Thrive2G team. With a strong background in education and behaviour mentoring, she works closely with young people, families, and educators — helping them build healthy emotional habits and navigate difficult life transitions with greater confidence and calm.

Jane understands what it looks and feels like inside a classroom when a child is struggling. That frontline insight shapes everything she does — practical, grounded, and always human.

William Masembe Nkata

Advanced Mental Health Practitioner

William specialises in psychosocial support and trauma counselling, with a particular focus on community-based mental health interventions across East Africa. He blends clinical knowledge with deep cultural understanding — making mental health care feel safe, relevant, and accessible to communities that have historically been underserved by formal systems.

His calm, grounded presence creates the kind of therapeutic space where healing genuinely begins. William works with individuals navigating trauma, loss, anxiety, grief, and emotional crisis.

Catherine offers something that no qualification alone can provide — the understanding that comes from having lived it herself. As a peer mentor, she creates safe, honest, and non-judgmental spaces where people feel truly heard, without the pressure of clinical settings.

Her work is a reminder that sometimes the most powerful thing one person can offer another is the simple truth: “I have been there too — and there is a way through.”

Peer Mentor

Joy Mulumba

Peer Mentor & Mental Health Advocate

Joy Mulumba is a passionate mental health advocate and peer mentor whose work is deeply rooted in lived experience. Based between Belgium and the Netherlands, Joy brings a uniquely European perspective to the Thrive2G team — extending our reach into communities across Western Europe and the broader African diaspora.

Joy’s advocacy is particularly close to her heart when it comes to mothers. She understands firsthand the exhaustion, isolation, and overwhelm that can come with navigating complex systems — whether that is healthcare, education, social services, or immigration — while trying to hold everything together for your family. She has been there. And that is exactly why she is here.

Beyond mental health, Joy is a fierce advocate for children without families. She champions the rights and welfare of orphans, and advocates passionately for foster care, adoption, and surrogacy — believing that every child deserves the safety, love, and permanence of a family.

Joy’s world does not stop at advocacy. With years of experience in the world of Haute Couture and a deep commitment to fair fashion, she understands the power of ethical choices — and brings that same values-driven approach to everything she does. She is a proud supporter of fair and organic farmers, believing that giving back to the community and protecting the planet go hand in hand.

Whether she is holding space for a struggling mother, raising her voice for a child in care, championing ethical fashion, or supporting farmers growing food with integrity — Joy shows up fully, passionately, and with purpose.
